One extraordinary fact about this listing is that if the top speed of the automobile is anything less than 240 mph, it didn’t make the cut. As a point of reference, 240 mph is zippier than NASCAR and Indy speeds.

Too Fast for the Autobahn
Coming in at #5 with a top speed of 248 mph is the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo. The Saleen S7 was the first American mid-engine supercar. Its 750 horsepower engine will get you to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Although this is the only vehicle on the list with less than 1,000 horsepower, its speed numbers don’t show it. How speedy is 248 mph? Far above the fastest numbers recorded on the autobahn - where some stretches have no speed limit at all.
Put on Your Seatbelt!
Next at #4 is the SSC Ultimate Aero that reaches a top speed of 256 mph. SSC isn’t as celebrated as some of the others, but they certainly made waves with the Ultimate Aero. It has a twin-turbocharged V8 that creates 1,287 horsepower to rocket you up to the top speed.
Talk About Pucker Factor!
Earning the #3 spot is the Bugatti Chiron with a top speed of 261 mph. (I hope I am never overtaken by a Chiron doing 260 during a busy Jamestown commute - I would probably have a heart attack!) As of this writing, the Chiron is the most recent release from Bugatti and though its speed limiter is at 261 mph, it could possibly obtain even higher speeds when not limited.
Just What You Need When You Are Late for Work
Number #2 is made by Bugatti as well, this time the Veyron Super Sport. The Veyron will hit a top speed of 268 mph. 1,200 horsepower are packed into this luxurious supercar with a list price of over a million dollars.
And the Winner Is...
The #1 speed champ is the Hennessey Venom GT that pulls off a blistering 270 mph. Adding an extra 44 horsepower over the Veyron Supersport the Venom GT to a slightly speedier top speed. Don’t blink or you might miss it flying by!
